BOOMLOOK 2026 — Artist of the Week: Arlo Hennings, From Hollywood to Jakarta

ABOUT
ARLO HENNINGS

“The on ramp to the Rock n Roll Highway can begin anywhere. It’s the exit ramp that is hard to find.” — Arlo Hennings

A Lifetime in Music

My journey began in a small Minnesota dance hall where I worked the coat check and watched local bands chase their dreams. That front row seat to real music became my education.

The 1960s opened the world—Woodstock, the explosion of creative freedom, and the Minneapolis music scene where I co-founded Vitamin Q in 1979.

As a songwriter and recording artist, I signed publishing deals, wrote for film and television, and had my music recorded by others. I released a double album and opened a music venue in Minneapolis called On Broadway.

I joined PolyGram Records, where I worked in Artist Development and A&R, helping build careers and discover new talent.

For two decades I managed A&M recording artist Shawn Phillips, touring the world and building a creative partnership that has lasted a lifetime.

In 2011, I followed the highway to Bali, Indonesia, where I founded Hear2Ear Records—an independent label supporting artists and producing music that reaches listeners around the world.

From analog tape to AI, I’ve lived through revolutions in music—and I’m still on the highway.
